　　举世公认，伟大的革命家、政治家毛泽东历史知识十分渊博，一生酷爱阅读中国史书。
　　《二十四史》是毛泽东阅读评注最多的一部历史典籍。自1952年至1976年，在长达二十四年的时光中，毛泽东于日理万机之余，通读精读了这部巨著，并作了大量评注、圈点和各种阅读标记，从中可以看到毛泽东对一些重大历史事件的分析、对各种历史人物的评价、对某些历史经验教训的总结。毛泽东批注的《二十四史》为世人留下了丰富和珍贵的手迹，他那笔走龙蛇、特富个性的书法艺术，通过影印本真实地再现于读者眼前。

Throughout his lifetime,Mao Zedong,the great statesman and revolutionary of China,developed and maintained a special interest in reading historical literature.Among all the historiongraphy,The Twenty-Four Chronicles is the one that he marked out and commented uponmost substantially.From 1952 to 1976,Mao read through the whole collection intensively,and made voluminous marginal motes and commentaries,which reveal how he analyzed historical events,judged historical person and summed up historical experiences.As Mao was a great calligrapher himself,his hand-written commentaries can give us an excellent notion of his unparalleled accomplishment in the art of calligraphy,which has been given the most faithful and vivid representation by means of the photographic technique of this facsimile edition.

The thread-bound edition of Mao Zedong's commentaries on The Twenty-Four Chronicles is based on The Twent-Four Chronicles under the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795)which MAO collected and had kept reading since the beginning of the 50s.The work was published with the approval of Party Literature Research Centre of the CPC Central Committee,the Press and Publication Administration of the P.R.C.and Centre Archive And to guarantee its best publication quality,these units assembled a team of accomplished scholars and specialists to help collate and emend the original edition,and the work was finally publicly published by the Tread-Bound Press.A limited edition of 500 sets of collections have been printed and registered go be sold to the public at home and abroad.Of them,200 sets have already been sold out and 300 are left to new orders.To assure the collection's uniqueness,the original printing will be destroyed before the public in Beijing.

In November 1997,a collection of Mao Zedong's Commentaries on the Twenty-Four Chronicles was offered to Harvard University as a national gift by President Jiang Zemin during his visit to USA.In his speech there,Jiang remarked:“The Twenty-Four Chronicles is the important classical records of thousands-year-long history of China,and Mr.Mao Zedong's many notes and comments on them have left us a rich ideological heritage for better understanding the historical past and present”.
